Jack and Kristen live in identical floor plans in the same neighborhood. They both decide to sell their homes and they interview local Realtors.
Jack believes (as many people do) that all Realtors are pretty much the same, so he decides that he will save some money and list his home with the agent advertising the lowest commission.
Kristen believes (as people like us do) that some Realtors know how to market homes differently, so she decides to list her home with an agent whose marketing stands out from the others.
They both sell their homes and everyone is happy.
Jack is happy because he saved $4,000 in commissions.
Kristen is even happier because the additional marketing helped her sell her home for $9,000 more than Jack's home; bringing her total profit to $5,000 more than Jack... even though she paid a higher commission.
